I'm still not clear about the yellow/green trolleybuses however.

I've also looked again at the UAB Kaunas Autobusai website and it confirms that the minibuses are new - there's even a consultation there to gauge reaction to them. The other day I could find a poor English translation of it, but now I can't. It's at http://www.kaunoautobusai.lt/index.php?s_id=2634&lang=lt

If you're interested I can let you have some photographs from my visit.RLThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15626240025799743043noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3920824949568249153.post-88857059405368064312016-11-14T15:45:09.995-08:002016-11-14T15:45:09.995-08:00Hi Bob,

I've found the ex-PlzeĆ vehicles, numbered in the 330-335 range; there are also some acquired from Tallinn (354-363).

It sounds as though there has been something of a clear-out to replace some of the motley collection of second-hand buses since I was there in April!

Thanks again,

malcMalc McDonaldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09115026391323131703noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3920824949568249153.post-28549131423385411622016-11-13T12:34:27.340-08:002016-11-13T12:34:27.340-08:00I've just come back from a few days in Kaunas...I've just come back from a few days in Kaunas and on my last evening there while researching some of the things I had seen I came across your blog. Absolutely fascinating! I recognised the locations of many of your photos, and had taken some pictures at the same spots myself.

Perhaps I could make a few observations, some of which no doubt indicate changes that have taken place in the seven months since your visit.

1. Although the trolleybus services are numbered in the range 1-16, there is no 3 or 6, so only 14 services in total.

2. Some of the older trolleybuses (all Skodas) do in fact show destinations, using boards in the windscreen. Your picture of trolleybus 302 on service 1 shows an example. Certainly these were in the minority, and there seemed to be no real pattern to it.

3. Did you notice the colourful use of vinyl in the windscreens, possibly to act as sun visors? All sorts of colours seemed to be used, some plain, some patterned, and I wondered if any two were the same! I'm sure it must be possible to identify many of the buses from these.

4. There were still a few red/cream and yellow/green Skodas around. I wondered whether these were second-hand buses, or in a previous livery. I came across a Polish website which indicated that some of the trolleybuses had been acquired from Plzen, and I remember seeing trolleybuses in red/cream there in 1992.

5. I can confirm that there are now articulated DAF/Berkhof trolleybuses from Arnhem in service, in the usual lime green livery.

6. Whilst there were several buses in the municipal fleet running in the colours of their previous operators, I didn't see examples of several of the types you illustrated, such as the yellow/white ones with Dutch ancestry.

7. The yellow/white minibuses on services 51-57 are run by Kautra but appear to be 'official' as the services are detailed on the same website as the trolleybuses and the other municipal bus services.

8. There are now similar Mercedes minibuses in red livery operating on some of the other 'mainstream' bus services - I noted them on the 9, 22 and 44. They all looked very new, so this is almost certainly a new development.

I'll look forward to spending some time reading your reports on the many other locations you've covered. Keep at it!

BobRLThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15626240025799743043noreply@blogger.com
